Romance novels

I went into Big W the other day while waiting for the bus. The past couple of times I went, I was on the hunt for a nice book to read while taking public transport for the next couple of weeks. This time, however, it seemed that all they had was romance novels. The last time I went, there was a bit of this, a bit of that. But no, recently they've decided to convert the whole wall (except for the new releases part) into a whole book section dedicated to romance novels.

To tell you the truth, I've never read a romance novel before. Neither is reading a romance novel on my 'to do' list. I figure that since chick flicks aren't really my thing, neither would romance novels. Also, I doubt that the romantic side of the books would ever get through the insensitive exterior of my personality and into what is traditionally known as the heart: the emotional nerve center of the body.

Not only that, it'd kind of look a bit funny to people on the bus. You've really got to love those corny romance novel covers.

This isn't really a gripe, I've just got to look elsewhere for something which suits my literary interests.

Hmm, I dunno whether this would classified as a romance novel (i dont think it is ), but The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan (author of Joy Luck Club) is a really good book. I think it might even have made me cry, but that woulda been in 1st year when I wasnt jaded yet.
